Foreign Secretary attends January 2017 EU Foreign Affairs Council
The Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, spoke to media in Brussels as he arrived for talks with European partners.

The Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, said:
This morning [Jan 16] I鈥檒l be raising the conversations we鈥檝e had about Cyprus in Geneva over the last few days, and talking about some of the leadership that has been shown by both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities. I don鈥檛 want to oversell this, but there鈥檚 a certain amount of optimism that after many decades of paralysis we might be seeing a solution there.
We鈥檒l also have a conversation on Syria. And of course it is the first anniversary today of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) 鈥 the points of agreement with Iran, which is a difficult, controversial deal, but one that has stopped the Iranians from acquiring nuclear technology they might have otherwise have acquired and it鈥檚 a deal that we think has great merit and we want to keep going.
