Looking ahead to Learning at Work Week, which begins on Monday (13 May), Lisa Carter-Bradley, learning advisor for the Ministry of Defence says: 鈥淢ost civil servants understand the importance of learning at work - and Learning at Work Week is the perfect time to bang its drum,鈥�
鈥淏ut far fewer of us know聽 much about the work that goes on behind the scenes to make sure civil servants get the high-quality learning they need - nor about the team that delivers it.鈥�
As a learning lead within her department, Lisa is part of a network of colleagues from across government who, together, form the 鈥楽ingle Point of Contact鈥� (SPOC) team for learning and development.
The team is a vital resource for Government Campus as it works to develop its skills plan for Government and manages the learning framework contracts with the companies who supply learning and development across government.
鈥淥ur SPOC team members are our champions and advocates for how learning and development work in practice, on the ground,鈥� said Campus Director Nick Walker.
鈥淭hey are the people who have to understand in detail what we are trying to achieve and the complexities that are involved. Their expertise and insights are invaluable-聽 not least because they understand the needs and aspirations of civil servants within their own individual departments and make sure we put those front and centre of our work.鈥�
鈥淎s the Departmental Central Learning Team, being involved in the wider government community helps us to stay updated with the latest information and developments surrounding the learning frameworks 2.0. It also provides an excellent opportunity for networking with other departments, allowing us to share best practices鈥�.
Government Campus provides hundreds of courses ranging from its which is completed by more than 1,000 learners every month to leadership programmes such as the Future Leaders Scheme.
It is also working to develop a new portal which will provide a single front door for all Government learning - a transformational step forward in delivering easy access to learning.
