Assignment Report: Team of researchers from Bayero University Kano receives grant to compare feeding practices of mothers of stunted and non-stunted children

The study aims to highlight good feeding practices which support healthy child growth and development in Northern Nigeria

Abstract

In March 2015, a team in the Department聽of Community Medicine of Bayero University聽Kano led by Professor Zubairu Iliyasu received聽a research grant for a new research project聽to compare the feeding practices of mothers聽with stunted and non-stunted children. With the grant awarded by ORIE, the聽research findings will be important in a context in which around聽half of all children under five are stunted. The study aims to聽highlight聽good feeding practices which support聽healthy child growth and development in聽the Northern Nigeria context. The research聽findings will be used to strengthen the聽implementation and scale-up of infant and聽young child feeding (IYCF) counselling聽programmes in the Northern region.
