South African climate finance is focussed on reducing the country鈥檚 current reliance on coal
Abstract
South African climate finance is focussed in particular on reducing the country鈥檚 current reliance on coal: the World Coal Association estimates that South Africa relies on coal for 93 per cent of its electricity production making it more heavily dependent than any other country in the world. This paper discusses the overall framework, arrangements using public resources, and arrangements aimed at encouraging private sector investment. An overview of South Africa鈥檚 domestic climate finance arrangements is presented in tabular form.
